PDF Tools
PDF Compressor
Compress a PDF to an exact target size, in your browser.
The algorithm
Drop your PDF above. Each page is rendered to a canvas, re-encoded as a high-quality JPEG, and reassembled into a new PDF. The tool uses binary-search compression to find the best quality that fits under 1 MB.
If you need a specific target like 100 KB or 500 KB, use the dedicated landing pages in the sidebar - they target that size precisely.
A real use case
A typical 10-page scanned document starts around 5-10 MB. Compressing to 1 MB preserves readable text and reasonable image quality - good enough for email, archiving, and most portal uploads.
Common questions
What's the default target size?
This page compresses to under 1 MB by default. For exact targets like 100 KB or 500 KB, use the dedicated pages linked below.
Do my files leave my computer?
No. Everything runs in your browser using Canvas APIs. We have no servers that receive or store files.
What file sizes work?
Up to about 200 MB on most devices. Very long PDFs may hit browser memory limits.
Will the output text still be selectable?
At aggressive KB targets, pages are rasterized and embedded as JPEG - text becomes non-selectable. Larger targets preserve more of the original structure.
